The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Manfred Honeck will go on a festival tour through Europe: From 28 August until 8 September 2017 they give concerts together with violinist Anne Sophie Mutter and baritone Matthias Goerne, e.g. at Salzburg Festival, Rheingau Music Festival or Lucerne Festival. Rainer Honeck, concert master of Vienna Philharmonics and brother to Manfred Honeck will be soloist of the concert on 1 September at Grafenegg Festival.
The orchestra will tour through Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Romania and Switzerland.
It will be the 7th mutual tour of the PSO and Manfred Honeck to Europe and the very first concert at Salzburg Festival under the direction of Manfred Honeck. In 2003 the festival invited the orchestra together with Music Director Mariss Jansons.
Among others, Beethovens Symphony No. 7, the violin concerto by Dvořák, Mahler‘s songs from „Des Knaben Wunderhorn“, Mozart‘s violin concerto No. 3 g major and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 will be performed during the tour.
Also Tchaikovsky‘s Symphony No. 6 and Dvořák’s Rusalka Suite will be part of the tour repertoire. Both pieces have been released on CD by Reference Recordings.
In May/June 2017 the PSO and Manfred Honeck will release their new recording at Reference Recordings: Barber’s Adagio and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. It will be their 7th recording in the highly acclaimed Pittsburgh Live! series of multi-channel hybrid SACDs in the FRESH! series of the label.
